SIA Establishes Holding Company for Scoot and Tiger Airways

Singapore Airlines (SIA) has announced the creation of a holding company that will own and manage its budget airlines Scoot and Tiger Airways, following the delisting of Tiger Airways (which operates as Tigerair) from SGX-ST. Scoot and Tiger Airways, will now be led by Lee Lik Hsin, as CEO of the holding company. Said Mr Lee of his new position as CEO of Budget Aviation Holdings: “I am excited to be appointed to this new role. There are many opportunities ahead for Scoot and Tigerair to work more closely together, which will provide new opportunities for the growth of both airlines for the benefit of our customers.”

Additional CFM LEAP-1A Engine Orders Placed by SMBC Aviation Capital

The world's third largest aircraft leasing company, SMBC Aviation Capital, has placed orders with CFM International for ten LEAP-1A engines that will power five additional Airbus A320neo aircraft on order for the lessor. The deal has been valued at US$140 million AT current list prices and is a follow-on to SMBC Aviation Capital's initial LEAP-1A order for 60 engines, announced at the 2015 Paris Air Show.

Cathay Pacific Previews New Business Class Lounge at HKIA

Cathay Pacific Airways has hosted a preview of its new Business Class Lounge, located at ‘The Pier’ at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), following a comprehensive refurbishment. The new Business Class Lounge is now the largest among all Cathay Pacific lounges, with seating for 550 people and occupies a space of 3,306 square metres - approximately 1,000 square metres larger than the previous lounge.

Virgin Australia Unveils New Business Class Cabin

Virgin Australia has unveiled its new International Business Class cabin, which has been refitted on the first of its refitted Boeing 777-300ER aircraft now flying across the Pacific. Key features of ‘The Business’ on Virgin Australia’s Boeing 777-300ER aircraft; include 37 individual and private suites that convert into the length of a queen size bed at 80 inches. The seats are arranged in a reverse herringbone cabin layout, that maximises privacy, while allowing for 100 per cent direct aisle access in a 1-2-1 configuration. All five of the airline’s Boeing 777-300ER aircraft are expected to be refitted by the third quarter of 2016.

Captain Izham Ismail Appointed as New CEO MASwings

Malaysia Airlines has appointed Captain Izham Ismail as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of its sister airline, MASwings, effective 1 July 2016. Izham takes over as CEO, replacing the current incumbent, Captain Ritzerwan Rashid who will retire at the end of August. Captain Izham is currently Head of the Operations Programme Management Office, which oversees more than 100 projects key to the turnaround of Malaysia Airlines and is also Board of Director for various companies such as MAB Kargo.
