Gulfstream G500 Flutter Testing Complete
Gulfstream has announced the completion of flutter testing for its new G500 as part of the new aircraft’s flight-test program. Over 50 flights were performed by G500 test aircraft, T1, as part of the testing effort. The flight testing effort on the G500 commenced in May, last year.
“With three aircraft in flight, the program has surpassed 430 flight-test hours over more than 105 flights. This latest accomplishment, as well as the outstanding performance and reliability of all three flight-test aircraft, highlights the tremendous progress being made,” said Dan Nale, senior vice president, Programs, Engineering and Test, Gulfstream.
Gulfstream also announced that G500 test aircraft, T2 has completed climatic chamber testing at the McKinley Climatic Laboratory, Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. The three-day hot test program was followed by a two-day cold test which saw temperatures as high as 131 degrees Fahrenheit/55 degrees Celsius, to temperatures as low as -40 degrees F/-40 degrees C, respectively.
“The successful completion of climatic chamber testing assures us that the aircraft will be prepared to meet the Federal Aviation Administration’s rigorous certification process and extreme real-world conditions our customers will experience when they fly the G500,” Nale said.
The G500 flight test program, which will have a total of five test aircraft, currently has three aircraft that have been flying; The first test aircraft T1 took to the air in May 2015 (T1) followed by T2 & T3 in November 2015. T2 is focusing on flight loads validation, along with aircraft performance and systems testing, while T3 is the primary test bed for the all-new Symmetry Flight DeckTM. Performance evaluation of the ice-protection system, landing gear and nose wheel steering operation, environmental control system and cabin pressure control system, as well as community noise testing are also being performed in T3. T4 is expected to join flight testing soon.
