Air Canada Signs Up for Bombardier C Series
Bombardier Commercial Airplanes has bagged a vital new order for the C Series, with Air Canada becoming the first North American mainline and international network carrier to sign up for 45 CS300 aircraft with options for an additional 30 CS300 aircraft. Air Canada has also decided to retain the rights to convert some part of the order for the smaller CS100. This is Bombardier’s first order for the C Series in 2016 and at current list prices, the firm order for 45 jetliners is valued at approximately US$3.8 billion, though airlines are typically able to negotiate discounts on list prices.
“We’ve been carefully assessing the capabilities of Bombardier’s C Series aircraft and its progress for some time and today we are very pleased to announce an agreement to acquire the CS300 for our mainline fleet,” said Calin Rovinescu, President and Chief Executive Officer, Air Canada, The C Series with its superior economics, and greater seating  capacity will allow Air Canada to compete more effectively, providing increased point-to-point service to domestic and trans border markets further field, as well as feeding its network.
Targeting the 100- to 150-seat market segment, with the only all-new clean sheet design in its class, the C Series is powered by Pratt & Whitney PurePower PW1500G engines, and the C Series aircraft is delivering a greater than 10 percent unit cost advantage compared to similarly-sized, re-engined aircraft.
