Leonardo-Finmeccanica announced in May, that the third prototype (A/C3) of the AgustaWestland AW609 TiltRotor had completed its first ground run at the company’s facilities in Cascina Costa, Italy. The successful ground for A/C3 is a critical milestone for the programme for the advancing of ground testing and plans for a resumption of flight testing activities. A/C3 has been undergoing ground run testing with all engines and systems operating, in preparation for FAA certification flight testing planned for this summer at the company’s Philadelphia facility. A/C3 will also participate in icing trials in winter this year. The test activities of the first prototype were restarted on 15 April. The fourth prototype A/C4, will enter the test fleet in 2017 and is presently undergoing assembly in Philadelphia Certification of the first commercial tiltrotor is expected in 2018, with deliveries to customers to follow soon after.
