Leonardo-Finmeccanica has announced orders for a AgustaWestland GrandNew light twin engine helicopter and two brand new AgustaWestland AW109 Trekkers from Japanese firm Kagoshima International Aviation and the Tokyo Metropolitan Police respectively.
Kagoshima International Aviation will acquire a second AgustaWestland GrandNew light twin engine helicopter for emergency medical service (EMS) tasks in the Kagoshima Prefecture of Japan. The helicopter is scheduled to be delivered in the fall of 2016.
The GrandNew helicopter is being acquired as part of the the Doctor Heli system programme which is intended to provide modern airborne EMS coverage to all prefectures in Japan. Kagoshima International Aviation’s GrandNew will be outfitted in a dedicated EMS configuration.
The cabin layout able to accommodate one litter plus four medical attendants and the aircraft will be fitted with an auxiliary fuel tank to extend its range and endurance.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department will also acquire two brand new AgustaWestland AW109 Trekkers for its law-enforcement fleet.
Japan becomes the first Asian law enforcement operator of the type, which is scheduled to receive civil certification by the end of this year.
Both helicopters on order will be delivered next year.
