Production-Complete 737 MAX 8 Unveiled

Boeing’s first production-complete 737 MAX 8 was unveiled in a special teal version of the Boeing livery last week. Named the Spirit of Renton, the newly painted jetliner is now undergoing pre-flight preparation in the factory, following which it will depart Renton Field for flight test readiness tests. The maiden flight for the aircraft is scheduled to take place early next year.

“With the rollout of the new 737 MAX the first new airplane of Boeing’s second century our team is upholding an incredible legacy while taking the 737 to the next level of performance,” said Keith Leverkuhn, vice president and general manager, 737 MAX, Boeing Commercial Airplanes.

Currently final assembly is underway on the second and third 737 MAX 8 airplanes, that will also join the flight test fleet. The fourth aircraft is in sub-assembly and will be the final aircraft to join the flight test fleet. Southwest Airlines which is the launch customer for the type is scheduled for receive its first aircraft in the third quarter of 2017. Boeing has received approximately 3000 orders from 60 countries worldwide for the 737 MAX family.
