H160 Takes Off with Turbomeca Arrano
Posted: 2016 Jan 30

The second Airbus Helicopters H160 prototype (PT2) and the first to be powered by Turbomeca’s new generation Arrano engines has successfully completed its maiden flight. The first prototype, PT1 crossed 75 hours of flight testing in 2015 and has expanded the helicopter’s flight envelope and validated many features as also the excellent handling qualities of the helicopter. Entry into service for the new type is slated to take place in 2018.

“Introducing PT2 is an important step in the H160 development as we will launch performance testing with the Turbomeca Arrano engines.” said Bernard Fujarski, head of the H160 Program.

Airbus Helicopters will build a total of five prototype helicopters as part of the developmental programme for the H160. This will include: two helicopter zeros (ground tests only) and three flying prototypes.
