Malaysia Airlines Exercises Options for 2 More A350s
Posted: 2016 Jun 04

Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB) will acquire two more new Airbus A350-900s, after exercising its lease option for a 12-year period with Air Lease Corporation (ALC).

The options were part of an existing Lease Agreement for 4 A350-900s signed by both parties in September 2015.

Malaysia Airlines Berhad’s Chief Executive Officer Christoph Mueller said, “The additional two Airbus A350-900s will complement the existing four (4) that is on order to reach a critical fleet size, allowing standby aircraft for any scheduled maintenance and enabling future network expansion.”

Commenting on the acquisition of the additional aircraft by Malaysia Airlines, Steven F. Udvar-Házy, Air Lease Corporation’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said, “In addition to the four A350-900s placed by ALC last year, we are confident that these two additional A350-900 aircraft will further maximize Malaysia Airlines’ business operations as well as global growth.”

The new aircraft will be able to operate non-stop from Kuala Lumpur to London and throughout Asia and is powered two Rolls Royce Trent XWB-84 engines.
