Airbus Defence and Space, Telespazio France Consortium Awarded Space-Based Maritime Surveillance Service Contract

A four-year contract for the provision of a satellite-based maritime surveillance service for the French Navy has been awarded to an Airbus Defence and Space and Telespazio consortium. A follow-up to Trimaran 1 contract, the new Trimaran 2 contract will allow maritime zone commanders to access optical and radar imaging and AIS (Automatic Identification System) data to enhance the effectiveness of national maritime missions. France has an economic exclusion zone covering more than 11 million km², the second largest in the world behind the United States.

Babcock & BAE Systems to Sustain Royal Navy 4.5-inch Mark 8 guns

The Royal Navy has awarded a five-year contract worth £41 million to a joint consortium of Babcock International Group and BAE Systems to ensure the ongoing availability and sustainability of the Royal Navy’s Medium Calibre Guns (MCGs). The contract could be extended by a further five years and the two firms have announced that they will look beyond the duration of the support contract and look to sustain up to all of the 20 in-service 4.5-inch Mark 8 Mod 1 Naval Guns until 2039.

Meprolight Receives Large Reflex Sights Order from Israel Defense Forces

Meprolight will supply a large number of its MEPRO MOR reflex sights to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the company has announced. The MEPRO MOR was selected as part of tender that calls for Meprolight to undertake ongoing maintenance for the reflex sights and also deliver the sights quickly to the IDF.

First Mistral-class Helicopter Carrier for Egypt Delivered by DCNS

The first of two Mistral Class Helicopter Carriers destined for Egypt has been delivered by DCNS. The delivery of the LHD (Landing Helo Dock) Gamal Abdel Nasser took place in the first week of June. The order for the two helicopter carriers was signed in October, 2015. Egypt has placed significant orders for naval vessels with DCNS and by 2020, the French firm will have supplied at least seven combat vessels to Egypt.

Lockheed Martin Awarded EW Training Contract by U.S. Navy

The U.S. Naval Air Warfare Center – Weapons Division (NAWC-WD) has awarded Lockheed Martin a 5-year, single award indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract to support the Aircrew Electronic Warfare Tactical Training Range (AEWTTR) program in Ridgecrest, California. The ceiling value of the contract has been announced as US$424 million. This new contract extends that commitment by providing radar simulators in support of pilot survivability training.
