Officials from the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Defence have confirmed that the UAE would progress with an upgrade of its Mirage 2000-9 fighter fleet with Dassault Aviation and Thales.

Teams from the UAE Air Force are working in conjunction with Dassault Aviation and Thales to define the scope of work and exact nature of upgrades to be taken.

“We are looking to modernise and upgrade our Mirage 2000-9 fighter jets with the latest avionics and systems to make them operationally relevant for the next 10 years,” Major General Ishaq Saleh Al Baloushi, Head of the Executive Administration of Industries and Development of Defense Capabilities, said, while adding that a contract would be announced soon.

The UAE Air Force was the first operator of the Mirage 2000-9.
