Harris Corporation Wins Australian Battlespace Communication System Tender

An Australian Defence Force tender for an integrated battlespace communication system has been won by Harris Corporation, which emerged as the preferred tenderer. Harris will provide an integrated tactical communications network for voice and data services to tactical forces over line-of-sight and beyond-line-of-sight applications to the Commonwealth of Australia for the Land 2072 Phase 3 program.

DCNS Bags Australian SEA 1000 Future Submarine Program

DCNS has been selected by the Australian Government as its preferred international partner for the design of 12 future submarines for the Royal Australian Navy. The new generation submarines will be constructed at the Adelaide shipyard. The Future Submarine project, which entails an investment of $50 billion  is the largest and most complex defence acquisition Australia has ever undertaken and  will directly sustain around 1,100 Australian jobs and a further 1,700 Australian jobs through the supply chain.

Second 767-2C for KC-46 Program Makes Maiden Flight

The fourth and final flight test aircraft destined for the KC-46 Pegasus fleet has completed its maiden flight and will now join the flight test program. This 767-2C aircraft, known as EMD-3, is a KC-46 without the aerial refueling system installed and will be used to conduct environmental control system testing, including hot day/cold day testing and smoke penetration testing.

Sikorsky King Stallion Lifts 12,000 Pound External Load

Sikorsky’s CH-53K helicopter has successfully accomplished its first external lift flight by carrying a 12,000 pound external load. Initial external payloads weighing 12,000 pounds will be flown first in hover and then incrementally to speeds up to 120 knots.  The CH-53K also known as the ‘King Stallion’, will later carry external payloads weighing 20,000 and 27,000 pounds respectively, further expanding its external load envelope.

F-35 Program Making Steady Progress

The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II aircraft program is at a "pivot point”, Air Force Lt. Gen. Christopher C. Bogdan, the program executive officer, told the Senate Armed Services Committee earlier this week. He said that development and flight tests will finish late next year, following which efforts will be made to transition to a "leaner, more efficient follow-on modernization program.”
