Second Russian Guepard 3.9 Frigate Launched for Vietnamese Navy

The second ship of a pair of frigates ordered by the Vietnamese Navy which was launched in April 2016, will commence sea trials om September this year,  the manufacturer of the ships, Zelenodolsk Design Bureau has announced. The last equipment and components for the frigate will be installed by the end of summer.

Indian HTT-40 Basic Trainer Aircraft Completes Maiden Flight

India’s indigenously developed basic trainer aircraft (BTA), the Hindustan Turbo Trainer 40 (HTT-40), built by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) successfully completed its maiden flight earlier today in Bangalore. The HTT-40 will now commence a series of flight trials with additional prototypes to obtain certification before entering service with the Indian Air Force (IAF). The IAF already operates 75 Swiss Pilatus PC-7 MKII basic trainers. The tandem seat HTT-40 Basic Trainer Aircraft (BTA) will undertake Stage I flight training for IAF cadets.

F-35 Programme Progressing Well in All Aspects

The F-35 Lightning II program is on track and demonstrating "continuing progress in all aspects," the U.S. undersecretary of defence for acquisition, technology and logistics, Frank Kendall announced in the last week of May at a conference call with reporters after an F-35 chief executive officer roundtable meeting in Phoenix.

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA‑ASI), has announced that it will further augment the capability of its new RPA Training Academy located in North Dakota, U.S.A. GA-ASI will support the UND Aerospace Foundation located at the University of North Dakota (UND) in expanding the use of RPAs for commercial applications. GA-ASI also will expand its current worldwide partnership with CAE.

First KC-46 Tankers to Arrive at U.S. Bases by Late 2017

The U.S.A.F has announced that the first batch of Boeing KC-46 Pegasus airborne tankers will now arrive at their first basing locations by late summer or early fall 2017. The new-generation tanker being built by Boeing was originally scheduled for a spring 2017 arrival at its first formal training unit location, Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma, and the first active duty-led Pegasus main operating base, McConnell AFB, Kansas.
