Lockheed Martin to Continue LRASM Integration and Test Program

A US$321.8 million sole-source contract has been awarded by the U.S. Navy to Lockheed Martin for continuation integration and test phase work on the Long Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM). The funding is important as it will be used for continuation of LRASM flight testing and integration onto the U.S. Air Force B-1B and the U.S. Navy F/A-18E/F aircraft. Early operational capability of the LRASM for the U.S. Air Force and Navy is expected in 2018 and 2019 respectively.

Pakistan SAR Requirement to be Met with AW139

Leonardo-Finmeccanica has announced that Pakistan will acquire an undisclosed number of AgustaWestland AW139 intermediate twin engine helicopters to meet the nations requirement for a search and rescue (SAR) helicopter. Deliveries of the AW139 to Pakistan are expected to commence from next year. The helicopters will be obtained as part of a fleet renewal programme that will be spread over several batches and also include a logistic support and training package.

RAAF Hawk Mk127 Fleet Achieve 100,000 Flying Hours

The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) has achieved 100,000 flying hours on its BAE Systems Hawk 127 Lead-In Fighter fleet. The RAAF’s Hawk fleet has been in service since 2001 and a total of 33 aircraft are currently operational. Support for Australian Hawks which are based at the RAAF Bases in Williamtown and Pearce, are provided by BAE Systems Australia.

Typhoon Formation Flight

In a unique photo opportunity, an aircraft from each of the Royal Air Force Typhoon Squadrons took part in a diamond 9 formation flight on the 19th November 2015 to represent all operational and training assets. The diamond consisted of aircraft from, 1 Sqn(RAF Lossiemouth), 2 Sqn (RAF Lossiemouth), 3 Squadron (RAF Coningsby), 6 Sqn (RAF Lossiemouth), 11 Sqn (RAF Coningsby), 29 Sqn (RAF Coningsby), 41 Sqn (RAF Coningsby) 1435 flight (Falkland Islands), and BOB75 in the centre to commemorate the Battle of Britain 75 years ago.

Indian Navy Phases Out Sea Harrier VSTOL Jets

The Indian Navy has formally phased out its BAE Sea Harrier jump jets from service. The last squadron to operate the type in Indian Navy service has been re-equipped with the Russian MiG-29K carrier borne supersonic fighter aircraft.
