Lockheed Martin has announced that it has been selected by the Polish Armament Group for additional talks on the feasibility of using the HIMARS artillery rocket system for Poland's Homer program.
The two parties are joining hands to ensure that Poland develop its own defense industry and modernize its military with technology transfers and modernized production facilities, the company said.
The High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS), a multiple launch rocket system that is mounted on a standard Army Medium Tactical Vehicle chassis, can carry either six 227mm M270 rockets or one Army Tactical Missile System battlefield precision-guided missile.
The M270 rocket can be carried on HIMARS or M270 MLRS launchers.
Newer models are precision-guided and have a range of over 75 miles.
The Polish Ministry of Defense wants to integrate HIMARS technology into a Polish variant. It also will purchase Patriot Advanced Capability-3 anti-ballistic missiles to bolster its defences.
