Full Range of Al Seer Marine’s USVs on Display at DSA 2018

: Apr 16, 2018 - : 10:09 pm

Al Seer Marine Technologies is showcasing a wide range of unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) at the ongoing show. The company’s offerings have also attracted interest from visiting military delegations and amongst the first was a high-level military delegation from the UAE.

“We have had a number of important partner meetings at the show as we look to further expand our presence in the region. Strong partnerships are essential for growth here and we are happy that our participation at DSA is getting us an even better response than anticipated,” Lee Drinkwater, Head of Business Development & Strategy at Al Seer Marine Technologies, said.

Another aspect highlighted by Drinkwater is Al Seer Marine’s capability to convert existing platforms into unmanned assets, allowing a potential user the ability to obtain an asset that can be operated as a manned or unmanned vessel but for the price of one. One of the key models being highlighted by Al Seer Marine at DSA is the Tamin Series – 11M interdiction platform, which has a top speed of 45 knots and a cruise speed of 30 knots. The USV series of platforms are capable of littoral patrol operations and each platform can be customized to meet specific user requirements.

The 11m USVs can be fitted with the Safe Stop device, which can incapacitate another boat in its tracks by disabling the engine and electronics, the Laser Dazzler, which can fire upto 4km and illuminate a target with a strobe mode that disorients people and a long range acoustic device (LRAD), which is a non-lethal weapon for escalation of force. The ground control centre for this USV fits into a 20-foot container which is truck portable. “Our strong in-house R&D setup is staffed by highly experienced domain experts in fields such as robotics, propulsion, etc. Our USP is seamless integration of any equipment required by the customer, as we have designed the core system and hardware for the platform, keeping this in mind,” Drinkwater emphasises.

Also, on offer is the Ramah Series – 11M RHIB multi-use manned and unmanned platform, which makes extensive use of the proven technologies from the Tamim series of USVs. These platforms can attain a top speed of 46 knots and feature an endurance of 235 hours/9.8 days (at sentry speed). Payload is a more than useful 500kg and standard equipment comprises of two video cameras and NETNODE Comms Suite. Primary propulsion is by twin waterjets, but Vector Thrusting Propulsion is available as an option.

Al Seer Marine is also showcasing its MCM (Mine Counter Measures) CAT Series Catamaran offerings, which can be operated in manned or unmanned modes. The CAT Series platforms feature a highly efficient composite hull design and the company’s in-house have delivered a smoother trajectory while providing exceptional maneuverability. These vessels can very easily be adapted for commercial operations performing marine based surveys for long periods of time. There is also available a 4M USV which is the smallest of the company’s offerings and was adapted from a jet ski. This USV features a 21-hour endurance (at sentry speed) and has a range of 145 NM and is powered by a gasoline engine. The high speed and versatility of the 4M USV allows it to undertake a wide variety of missions ranging from reconnaissance missions to harbor and ship security operations.
